      <title>The Business Lessons From Panto</title>

           'Growth rarely happens in the places we feel most comfortable.' Well… yesterday certainly proved that!
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           I popped over to my mum’s care home for what I thought would be a gentle, festive afternoon - sitting with mum, catching up with my brother and enjoying the Christmas panto the staff team put on to entertain the residents.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           It’s one of the many brilliant festive activities the staff organise to keep residents active, smiling and feeling connected.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           But the universe had other plans yesterday.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Two staff members were off sick and before I knew it (and with plenty of arm-twisting (oh yes there was!), I was handed a script… a cape… and a crown.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Prince Charming had arrived - well… a very questionable version of him anyway!
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           I really, really didn’t want to do it.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           I felt daft.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           I was out of my comfort zone.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           But here's the thing...
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           As business owners, we face these moments all the time: those unexpected situations that ask us to step up, lean in and lead - even when we don’t feel ready.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           How often do we as business owners have to step outside our comfort zones to embrace those awkward moments?
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Sometimes leadership isn’t about being polished or prepared - it’s about being present and stepping in when it matters. It’s about showing up for others, even when it feels awkward, messy or wildly off-script.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           And honestly?
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           It wasn't that bad after all.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           I don't think I'm cut out for panto but the show went on.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           The residents laughed.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           My mum beamed.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           The day was hopefully better because I said 'yes' when it would’ve been easier to say 'no'.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           And isn’t that the heart of business growth too?
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           The moments where we stretch…
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           where we risk looking a bit daft or failing…
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           where we choose progress over comfort.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Those are the moments that move us - and everyone around us - forward.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Sometimes the most meaningful things happens in the least glamorous roles - cape, wig and all.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           And remember...
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           If a wildly underprepared, painfully unconvincing Prince Charming like me can step up when needed… just imagine what you could achieve by stretching one inch beyond your own comfort zone this week.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           Surround yourself with people who lift you higher. That felt especially true yesterday at our very first 'Watch Party' - a unique mix of learning, networking and working on our businesses.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           For anyone who hasn’t come across it yet, our first ever 'Watch Party' took place yesterday - a unique combination of a livestream Masterclass event that focused on helping business owners map out a stronger, smarter, more sustainable plan for the year ahead.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           It was packed with insights, strategy and proper no-nonsense advice on building a business that thrives - not just survives - in the run-up to 2026.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           But instead of watching it alone at our desks, we decided to host our very own ‘cinema-style’ setup - popcorn included - and I was joined by other ambitious business owners who were also keen to learn and connect with others too.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           And honestly, it was brilliant! The content sparked loads of great conversations: How we’re planning for growth… What needs fixing in our businesses… Where the biggest opportunities for 2026 might be…
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           But the real value?
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Being in a room with people who understand the reality of running a business.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           After the livestream Masterclass we headed to lunch, carried on the networking, swapped ideas and then spent the afternoon working on our businesses - a perfect opportunity to Learn, Connect and Grow.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           It reinforced, once again, something I’ve always believed:
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           When you surround yourself with like-minded people, your ambition rises, your thinking expands, and you simply move faster.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

      <title>It's all about taking action...</title>

           Everything starts with taking action and implementing

           Yesterday was one of those days that reminded me exactly why I love what I do.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/martingladdish/" target="_blank"&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/a&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Martin Gladdish and I ran our very first 'Task Master Business Implementation Boot Camp' — an event to support small business owners - and what a fabulous day it was!
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           A room full of ambitious business owners. Laptops open. Coffee flowing.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            Heads down, sleeves rolled up — not just talking about growth, but actually getting things done.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            It’s amazing what happens when you take a full day to step out of the daily grind and work on your business instead of in it.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            For many, it was the first time in months they’d stopped to focus properly on their strategy, marketing, systems or growth plans — all supported by a brilliant panel of Experts who were on hand throughout the day to offer advice, answer questions and help people overcome the hurdles that had been holding them back.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            By the end of the day, you could feel the buzz in the room.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            Plans made. Strategies updated. Campaigns created.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            Real, tangible progress.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            That’s what happens when you surround yourself with the right people, the right energy, and a clear intention to take action.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            It’s easy to get stuck in the daily whirlwind of emails, clients and firefighting — but days like this prove that when you create space to focus, everything moves forward faster.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           You're Never Too Old To Make Your Mark...

            I attended a networking event recently where I was probably one of the oldest people in the room — I turned 57 this year.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Over coffee, I got chatting with another business owner (who was about my age) who said something that really stuck with me.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           He admitted he sometimes gets a bit of 'imposter syndrome' at these kind of events.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           “Everyone just seems younger,” he said,
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           “Fresher, full of energy… they talk about their ambitions and goals like they’ve got it all figured out — and I’ve been doing this for 20 years!”
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           But here’s the thing… Age should never be what defines the person you are. It's merely a number!
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Because while the younger crowd might have fresh-faced enthusiasm, endless qualifications, and enough energy to power a small city — we’ve got something that only time can teach:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           &amp;#55357;&amp;#56393; A Degree from the University of Life.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           That degree covers all the good stuff. Resilience. Perspective. People skills.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           And the wisdom that comes from the kind of mistakes you only make once.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           We’ve weathered storms.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           We’ve learned what really matters.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           And that life experience? Well, it’s pure gold in business.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           It reminded me of a few legends who proved that age is no barrier when it comes to chasing your dreams:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           - Colonel Sanders started KFC at 65.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           - Ray Kroc took McDonald’s global at 52.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           - Anne Boden was 55 when she founded Starling Bank!
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           - James Dyson was 46 when he launched his bagless vacuum cleaner
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           - Henry Ford was 45 when he designed the revolutionary Model T car.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           This year, I’ve gone back to being in the room with those young, fresh-faced business owners too as part of launching some new ventures from scratch. Sometimes I can't quite believe that I'm 57 and back at start-up mode myself!
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           But while it’s been a rollercoaster (as start-ups always are), I’m loving every bit of it. The energy, the creativity, the challenge — all fuelled by a healthy dose of experience and perspective.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           So, to my fellow “seasoned” entrepreneurs out there — don’t ever doubt your value.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Let your experience be your advantage.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           We might creak a little more getting started in the mornings…
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           …but once we’re running, there’s absolutely no stopping us. &amp;#55357;&amp;#56490;

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

            - and I reached out to Vicki to better understand the reality behind the studio doors.

            She shared real-world insight about the mindset of studio owners — the delicate balance between passion and profit, the emotional connection they have with their communities and the need for marketing tools that feel authentic.

            This wasn’t just useful — it was vital. Because when you’re building something new, it’s easy to assume you know what your audience wants. But assumptions are dangerous shortcuts.

            The truth?
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            You don’t know unless you ask.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            It was also a reminder that expertise doesn’t always come from Google searches, ChatGPT or desk research. Sometimes the gold lies in a 30-minute conversation with someone who’s in the space you're trying to market to.
             &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            It’s connections like this — conversations with people who’ve been there and done it — that turn a good idea into a great solution.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            So remember this...
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

            If you’re building something — a product, a brand, a business — get into conversations early.
           &#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Not to pitch. To learn and to ask better questions.

            I met a 'business owner' last week who attended an event I founded called
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           The Hertfordshire Business Growth Show
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           . They loved the event and it was really lovely to chat to them but, here's the thing - they were still waiting to take the leap to launch and start their business!
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           And that got me thinking...
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Every aspiring business owner has that moment.
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           That moment where they stand at the edge of an idea, staring into the unknown, debating whether to take the first step or wait until things feel ‘just right.’
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           But here’s the truth: if you wait for everything to be perfect, you’ll never start.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           I’ve probably had more than my fair share of 'not feeling ready' over the years when I've launched different businesses, events and community initiatives. But I knew that taking action beats hesitation every single time.
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Success isn’t about waiting for the stars to align. It’s about taking a deep breath, stepping forward and risking failure in pursuit of something great.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           I remember very clearly the day when I signed the venue contract for the first Herts Business Growth Show in 2023. I was committing to a minimum spend of £12k and I hadn't even sold a ticket, got any interest, got any sponsors or a clear roadmap of exactly how it would unfold.
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           But what I did have was a vision - to create an event where business owners could come together, share ideas, learn and grow.
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           It was a bold move but I knew that commitment of signing on the dotted line of the contract would push me to make it work.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           And it did.
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           That show turned into a thriving event that we ran for two years and is something that I loved establishing and growing to give real value to local business owners.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           That’s the difference between waiting and doing. If I had hesitated, worried about filling seats before securing the space, the event may never have happened.
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           But by making the commitment first, I forced myself to rise to the challenge.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           If there’s one lesson I’ve learned over and over again, it’s this: clarity comes from action, not the other way around.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           You don’t need the perfect plan. You don’t need every question answered. You just need to start.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Will you make mistakes? Absolutely. Will there be challenges? Of course.
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           But every successful entrepreneur will tell you the same thing: the real growth comes from the doing, not the waiting.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           So, what’s stopping you?
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           The best time to start was yesterday. The next best time is today.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           If you’ve been holding back on launching that business, releasing that product, or stepping into a bigger version of yourself - this is your sign.
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Take the leap. Put your work out there. Risk failure. Because in the end, the only true failure is never starting at all.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           You don’t need permission. You just need to go for it.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Not one step forward. Not one client onboarded. Not one real action taken.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            And I couldn’t help but think - what a wasted opportunity.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            Not because she lacks talent. Not because the idea isn’t good enough. But because, like so many others, she’s stuck.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           And when I dug a little deeper, I realised exactly why...
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           1. We Choose Comfort Over Progress
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Starting something new means stepping into the unknown. As business owners we've all taken that giant leap but the truth is uncertainty is uncomfortable. This lady wasn’t scared of business. She was scared of what she didn’t know about business. The unknown kept her in limbo.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            But here’s the reality: Growth and comfort never co-exist.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           If you want to move forward, you have to be willing to embrace uncertainty.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           2. Talking Feels Like Action... but it’s not
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            She’s told friends, family and fellow business owners about her plans. And every time she shares her vision, people get excited for her. That feels good. It gives her a rush of motivation. It almost feels like progress.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            But the hard truth?
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Talking isn’t doing and until she takes real action and puts her business out there, it’s all just noise.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           3. Fear of Failure Freezes Us
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The biggest reason she hasn’t started? Fear.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            Not just fear of failure, but fear of what that failure might mean. If she launches and it flops, what will people think? If she makes mistakes, will she look unprofessional? What if she’s not as good as she thought?
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           These fears keep people trapped in 'planning mode' forever. They refine, tweak and prepare… but never actually launch. But the reality? Failure is a requirement for success. If you haven’t failed, you haven’t even started.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           4. We Act According to Who We Think We Are
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            When I asked her what was stopping her, she said - 'I don’t know if I’m really a business owner yet.'
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            That’s the problem. She doesn’t see herself as an entrepreneur - so she doesn’t act like one. People behave in ways that align with their identity. If you don’t believe you’re a business owner, you’ll hesitate to make business-owner decisions.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            The good news?
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Identity is a choice. You don’t have to wait for some external confirmation - you just have to decide.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           5. The Truth About Success
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The people who build great businesses, achieve big goals, and change their lives? They’re not necessarily the smartest, the most prepared, or even the most experienced. They’re just the ones who take action.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           So if you’ve been waiting for a sign to start, this is it...
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Start now. Even if it’s messy. Even if it’s imperfect. Even if you’re scared.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Because the only way to fail is to do nothing at all.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

      <title>How Small Businesses Can Make a Big Impact</title>

           A chance conversation at a Networking Event got me thinking...
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Last week, I attended the 'Canapés and Connections' networking event in Berkhamsted. I had loads of great conversations but two really stood out for me.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           I was chatting with a couple of business owners who’d taken part in '
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;a href="https://www.charitychallenge.events" target="_blank"&gt;&#xD;
      
           The Great St Albans Challenge
          &#xD;
    &lt;/a&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           ' last October - a charity treasure hunt I set up to raise funds for Youth Talk. They told me how much they enjoyed the event and how it was great to see local businesses using their skills and experience to support community causes.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           It got me thinking and I wondered how many of the business owners in the room that night did something as a business to 'give back'?
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           My guess is that it's a small percentage... but here's the thing.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Every business - no matter its size - has the potential to give back in some way.
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           It doesn’t have to be on a large scale like 'The Great St Albans Challenge' (which had over 500 people taking part and raised over £8,000 for Youth Talk) :-).
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           That’s not the point.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           The point is that anyone can do something meaningful, whatever the size of the business.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           - A plumber could offer some free gas safety checks for OAPs.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           - A designer could offer to create some fundraising leaflets for a charity
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           - A lawyer could helping a worthy cause with some pro-bono legal advice.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           - A retailer could easily donate some prizes for a local raffle or fundraiser.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           - Any business could give employees a day off to vounteer for a worthy cause.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           - Staff could participate in a fund raising challenge.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           The list is endless - and easy to implement too.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           These small actions add up and they make a difference, not just for the community but for your business too.
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           They build connections, trust and a sense of purpose that goes beyond the day-to-day grind.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           What could you do?
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           What skill, service, or opportunity could your business offer to make an impact in your community?
           &#xD;

            Tonight was one of those nights.

            I had dinner with the brilliant David Butler, an award-winning business coach, friend and fellow entrepreneur who shares my passion for helping and supporting small business owners.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            It reinforced something I’ve always believed - when you bring together experience, big ideas, committed people and a drive to make a real impact, magic happens.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            We explored some exciting ways to see how we could leverage our combined expertise to create something that really helps and supports business owners across Herts.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            And the ideas flowed...
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            While it’s still early days, one thing is clear: when ambitious entrepreneurs collaborate, challenge each other and push the boundaries, exciting things happen.

           Tonight, I had the priviledge of supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs at the ‘Charity Quiz &amp;amp; Games Night’, organised by students from Kathering Warrington School, in Harpenden, as part of the ‘Dragon’s Apprentice Challenge’ initiative.
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Their mission? Turn £100 into £1000 for a local charity - Communities 1st - and they absolutely smashed it, raising over £600 on the raffle alone!
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           As their business mentor, it’s been incredible watching them develop business skills, take ownership and make a real impact. And the bonus… I won £10 on the bingo and a lovely raffle prize too (which my wife Kath quickly claimed as hers!).
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Initiatives like this are superb for nurturing skills that will stand them in good stead whatever they go on to do in life. I only wish opportunities like this had been around when I was at school!
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           This is why business owners need to get involved in community initiatives.
            &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Whether it’s mentoring young entrepreneurs, supporting local charities, or giving back in small ways - our experience can help shape the next generation and future leaders too.
           &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, take this as your sign to do it. It’s worth every moment.
